The White 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo

Anytime I do a search for ‘Porsche 944’ I find this picture above. It’s a beautiful car, but clicking the image usually takes me to a Porsche related article, but not an article about this actual car. So, I set out searching the internet to find it so I can share it with other Porsche enthusiasts. As I looked through the photos, I realized that the car was showing signs of wear, but the person that built the car had a great vision and obviously enjoyed driving it.

In the Eighties, Porsche offered more front-engine, water-cooled models than rear-engine, air-cooled ones, with the 944 being the biggest seller of them all. With a 50/50 weight balance, a reasonable entry price and a practical hatchback body style, it was a very usable sports car, and Porsche sold over 163,000 944’s from 1982-1991.

The 1988-1991 Porsche 944 Turbo was powered by a 2.5 L M44/52 turbocharged I4 making 250 PS (247 horsepower) and is the most desirable of the 944’s.

The 2.5 L Turbo in this Porsche has been equipped with a host of performance modifications from the Lindsay Racing catalog, including a “Stage 2” cylinder head, “Super 61” turbo kit with 19 psi of nominal boost, an upgraded mass air flow sensor, and an extrude-honed intake manifold. The factory exhaust has been replaced with a Lindsay Racing’s three-inch exhaust kit. Output to the rear wheels is estimated around 325 horsepower. That’s a 78 horsepower increase over stock.

Along with the powertrain upgrades, this 944 Turbo has been fitted with a variety of chassis upgrades. Leda coilovers with anti-roll bars from the factory M030 “Special Chassis” option were installed. An aftermarket strut tower brace has been fitted. “Big Red” brake rotors and calipers from a Porsche 993 have been fitted as well.

The wheels are RH 3.6 18-inch wheels which mimics the classic style of the Speedline wheel made famous by the early 90’s Porsche 3.6 L 964/5 chassis.

On the inside you’ll find a burgundy interior and a MOMO steering wheel and shift knob combo along with a Lindsay Racing aftermarket gauge cluster to enhance the driver experience.

The 944 is painted in factory Alpine White and features a GT Racing air splitter, along with Porsche 968 mirrors and spoiler. To smooth the lines, the body moldings and rear wiper have been removed.

Another unique feature that really catches your attention is the yellow fog light lenses on the front.

This Porsche 944 was listed for sale at Hemmings.com in 2020 and sold for $15,015. Hopefully it’s bringing its new owner a lot of joy.
