Pro Tour 1973 Pontiac Trans Am

The Pontiac Firebird has earned its place as one of the most iconic muscle cars in automotive history, and its second-generation model, particularly the Trans Am trim, is the epitome of American performance. With its massive 455 engine (7.5 liters), it was built to dominate. But the example we’re talking about today? It’s come a long way since rolling off the factory floor 42 years ago.

Five years ago, this stunning machine underwent a complete rebuild, and it’s now packing a serious punch. Gone is the original engine, replaced by a Pontiac Butler Performance 535 cubic inch (8.7-liter) engine, cranking out an impressive 700 horsepower. That’s a lot of power to play with, especially when paired with a five-speed manual transmission that guarantees an adrenaline-packed driving experience.

But don’t worry, this beast is built to handle it. The team at “Restore a Muscle Car” reinforced the frame, adding a Detroit Speed 4-link suspension, Pro-Touring F-Body front control arms, spindles, and Wilwood disc brakes. To ensure it sticks to the road, they outfitted it with BFGoodrich KDW tires. It’s not just about raw power; it’s about control, too.

The interior has been just as meticulously upgraded, featuring a top-tier sound system and custom Cerullo seats adorned with Trans Am bird embroidery, among other refinements.

As for the aesthetics, the car sits on custom 18-inch, two-piece wheels made by Rushworth, perfectly complementing its striking Spies Hecker deep-black paint job. And let’s not forget the custom exhaust system, which likely allows that powerful engine to roar with authority.
