Take a GMC 4-wheel drive Wideside or Fenderside Pickup or a Jimmy — add the appropriate assortment of Hickey Enterprises’ equipment and you have a Desert Fox Pickup or Jimmy — a tough and distinctively different vehicle that is as much at home on the road as it is running a dry creek bed or pulling a mountain trail.
Desert Fox Pickups
The Desert Fox is not only a distinctive performer, it has its own distinctive look, too. A Buckskin exterior color is neatly complemented by five-band multi-striping treatment in desert colors of Medium Buckskin, Russet, Dark Red, Light Mahogany, and Deep Regal Blue. The striping is used over the hood, fenders, doors, and side panels.
The Desert Fox is available on Fenderside and Wideside, short or long wheelbase models with 6 ½ – or 8-foot pickup box in 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive models.

If you’re looking for that special Desert Fox equipment wrapped around a Jimmy, we’ve got that, too. You can order the Desert Fox Jimmy in 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive models with a hardtop. Desert Fox Jimmys get their rugged good looks from an exciting available special equipment package that includes:
- Special five-band striping on the sides and hood.
- PA6 wheels painted in color-coordinated Buckskin to match the body and equipped with bright metal trim rings.
- Color-coordinated Buckskin-colored brush guard and front-end guard equipped with chrome tow hooks and dual high-intensity CIBIE lights.
- Special Desert Fox identification insignia on front quarter panels.
- Set of four side-mounted tie downs.
- Buckskin-colored roof racks.
- Painted roof color-coordinated with Buckskin paint scheme.

You can get that extra touch of the Desert Fox on your Jimmy with an available tire carrier and dual five-gallon water cans in holders, with all three painted to match or complement the Buckskin exterior color.

Swing-Down Folding Steps
There’s convenient firm footing for easy entry and exit with this special folding step (left and right side). When not in use, it folds up and out of the way. The rubber pad carries highly visible “STEP” lettering.
Sidewinder III Winch Aand Mount Kit
A must for off-road adventurers, the powerful Sidewinder winch can pull you out of those tough spots. There’s a lightweight but very strong vertically mounted cable drum and a removable hand-held control switch that lets you operate the winch from inside or out of the cab.
Rear Tire And Water Carrier
When you head for the trails and other off-road areas, you can take your water along in two five-gallon water cans that can be mounted and removed in seconds. With the spare tire mounted at the rear, there’s more cargo room on board. The carrier is hinged to swing out and provide clear access to the tailgate.
Available Radios From Hickey
Two-speaker AM/FM stereo radio and AM/FM stereo with two-speaker, 40-channel CB transceiver lets you do it all in a Desert Fox Pickup — listen to news or music or talk with other CBers. The whole system fits neatly into the instrument panel. Desert Fox Jimmys sport available four-speaker systems that include AM/FM stereo radio or AM/FM stereo with 40-channel CB transceiver.

Paint Not Decals
The stripes on these trucks were actually painted on the truck. They weren’t vinyl decals like was typical in the 1970’s and 80’s. Here’s an unrestored 1978 GMC K1500 4×4 Desert Fox and you can see where the painted stripes have worn off.
